Collecting from Home Leads to Better Samples

Studies have shown that sperm collected from home vs. a clinic has been shown to have higher values of semen volume and improved sperm concentration, sperm count, sperm motility, and motile sperm per ejaculate.

What Our Standard Sperm Analysis Measures:

Volume

Volume, also known as semen volume, is the amount of semen produced during ejaculation. It's usually between 1.5 and 5 milliliters, or about ¼ to 1 teaspoon, per ejaculation. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that semen volume can range from 0.8 to 7.6 milliliters, with an average of 1–5 milliliters.

Total Motile Count

This is the number of moving sperm in the entire ejaculate. It is calculated by multiplying the volume by the concentration (million sperm/ml) by the motility (% moving). There should be more than 20 million motile sperm in the ejaculate.

Concentration

Sperm concentration is also known as the density of the sperm. Number of sperms may vary from 15 million/ml to more than 200 million/ml or 39 million per ejaculate volume. Sperm count less than 15 million per ml is called oligospermia and the complete absence of sperm in semen is called azoospermia.

Motility

Motility is a measure of how well your sperm are swimming, at least 40% should be motile, or moving.

Post-Thaw Analysis: Number of Vials Cryopreserved

We'll share how many vials were collected and stored from your sperm sample.

Post-Thaw Analysis: Concentration

Post-thaw analysis is an additional step taken after cryopreservation to ensure that the samples are still viable after thawing and can be used in the future. Your concentration will be measured again. It is normal for a sample to have lower concentration post-thaw.

An Enhanced Sperm Analysis Determines Your Sperm Morphology

Why does your sperm morphology matter? Sperm morphology refers to the size and shape of sperm. A sperm’s structure is crucial because it can impact its ability to swim properly and ultimately fertilize an egg. You have the option to add on the sperm morphology test when you choose to add the enhanced analysis. Learn more about sperm morphology and it's importance in cryopreservation and future fertility treatments here.

For The Curious

Do I need bloodwork?

Infectious disease testing is not required to store your sample; however, it will be required to release or use your sample in the future. Most fertility clinics require infectious disease testing to be completed within 60 days of your last collection.

What is your refund policy?

Unused Kits – Within fifteen (15) days from purchase and before your sample has been processed, you may request a refund. All monies paid will be refunded minus a $75 Kit Fee (per kit) and shipping charges.

Used Kits – Within seven (7) days of your sample being processed, you may request a refund if your sample is not viable for storage. All monies paid will be refunded minus a $199 lab processing fee, a $75 kit fee (per kit) and shipping charges.

How much sperm should I store?

All samples are stored in 1.5mL vials.  The number of vials per sample depends on the amount of sperm produced in the sample. The average is around 3 vials. Most fertility procedures use between 1-3 vials per fertility attempt, and it could take multiple attempts to produce a pregnancy. Multiple samples are generally chosen by our clients to optimize their chances of parenthood. Multiple kit discounts are available.

What if I want to cancel my account?

Contact us. We will guide you through our Account Termination process.  Once we're notified, we will send you an Account Termination Form to complete and have notarized.  CryoChoice charges a $150 Account Termination Fee.  Submission of your Account Termination form must be made sixty (60) days prior to your annual renewal date to avoid incurring the annual storage renewal.

Is there a minimum or maximum age for storing?

Our kits are appropriate for ages 13 and older. As long as there is a valid concern and the individual is fertile, storage is an option.
